What is a Festa Major?

Every town in Catalonia has its own Festa Major — an annual multi-day street party celebrating the town’s patron saint. Expect gegants (giant figures parading through streets), correfocs (fire runs with sparks and dragons), castellers (human towers), sardanes (traditional circle dances), open-air concerts, street food and a lot of community spirit.

Coastal towns (Mar) mostly celebrate during summer, from June to September. Inland towns (Munt) are spread throughout the year — some even hold their festa in winter. Use the Mar / Munt filter above to find festa majors by zone.

These are free, public celebrations — everyone is welcome. They’re the best way to experience authentic Catalan culture.
