Five ways to reach the coast — ranked by our recommendation.
| Option | Price | Time | Runs | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ⭐ Aerobus + R1 Train | ~€13.50 | ~2h | Daytime (R1 ends ~22:30) | Our pick — fast, comfortable, both terminals |
| ⭐ Sagalés 603 Direct Bus | €11.85 | ~2h | 3–4x daily | No transfers — direct to Calella/Blanes |
| Private Transfer | €83–130 | ~1h15 | 24/7 | Fixed price, door-to-door, flight monitoring |
| Shared Shuttle | ~€14/pp | ~1h45 | Seasonal | Cheapest door-to-door — book 48h ahead |
| Metered Taxi | €110–120 | ~1h15 | 24/7 | No booking needed — rank at arrivals |
| R2 Nord + R1 Train (via Sants) | €5.50–8.25 | ~2h | 05:40–23:38 | Cheapest option — single ticket, but trains often delayed |
| Metro L9 Sud | €5.90 | ~2.5h+ | 05:00–midnight | Slowest — skip it |
Runs from both T1 and T2 without needing the shuttle bus. Brilliant for daytime arrivals — but the last R1 train from Plaça Catalunya to Maresme leaves around 22:30, so this only works if you land before ~9pm.
The Aerobus also stops at Plaça Espanya, but don’t get off there — Sants Estació is a 10-minute walk away, whereas Plaça Catalunya has the R1 directly underneath.
Direct bus from the airport to the main Maresme resort towns. No changes, no connections. Year-round service. If your town is on the route, this is the most logical choice — why go all the way to Barcelona centre and back out again?
| Stop | Price | Journey | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Barcelona Airport T1 | — | Departure | Platforms 10–12, ground floor |
| Barcelona Airport T2 | — | Departure | Intercity bus area |

The quickest and most comfortable option, especially for groups, families with luggage, or late-night arrivals when public transport stops running. Available 24/7 — the only option after ~22:30 when trains stop. Shared shuttles from €14/person, private sedans from €83, metered taxis ~€110–120.
Fixed price, driver waits at arrivals with a name board, flight monitoring if delayed. Cheaper than a metered taxi for longer distances to the Maresme coast.
| Company | Type | To Calella | Time | 24/7? | Key Feature |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Terravision | Shared shuttle | ~€14/person | ~1h45 | Seasonal | Cheapest option; shared minibus, book 48h ahead, Apr–Oct only |
| Chofix | Private sedan | from €83 | ~1h15 | Yes | Best confirmed price; 14 vehicle types, WhatsApp coordination |
| Suntransfers | Private sedan | ~€85–110 | ~1h15 | Yes | UK-based, no booking fees, long-established |
| Solhop | Private sedan | ~€104 | ~1h15 | Yes | Pay on arrival (cash or card); 4.9/5 from 8,800+ reviews |
| Welcome Pickups | Private sedan | ~€100–130 | ~1h15 | Yes | Driver photo & number sent in advance; strong TripAdvisor reviews |
| ZoneTransfers | Private sedan | ~€90–110 | ~1h15 | Yes | All-inclusive pricing, no hidden fees; WhatsApp booking |
| Kiwitaxi | Private sedan | ~€107–119 | ~1h15 | Yes | Global marketplace; 12+ vehicle options from micro to minibus |
Prices are for a standard sedan (up to 4 passengers) unless stated otherwise. All private transfers include meet & greet, flight monitoring and door-to-door service as standard. Verify final prices on each company’s website before booking.
Tip for groups: A private sedan (4 passengers) at €83 works out to ~€21 per person — only slightly more than the Sagalés bus, with door-to-door convenience.
| Destination | Approx. Cost | Time |
|---|---|---|
| Airport → Montgat | ~€40–50 | ~25 min |
| Airport → El Masnou | ~€45–55 | ~30 min |
| Airport → Premià de Mar | ~€50–65 | ~30 min |
| Airport → Vilassar de Mar | ~€55–70 | ~35 min |
| Airport → Cabrera de Mar | ~€60–75 | ~40 min |
| Airport → Mataró | ~€75–90 | ~45 min |
| Airport → Arenys de Mar | ~€85–100 | ~55 min |
| Airport → Calella | ~€110–120 | ~1h15 |
| Airport → Pineda de Mar | ~€110–125 | ~1h15 |
| Airport → Santa Susanna | ~€115–130 | ~1h20 |
| Airport → Malgrat de Mar | ~€120–140 | ~1h20 |
| Airport → Blanes | ~€130–160 | ~1h30 |
Prices are approximate and vary with traffic, time of day and route taken. Night rate (~20:00–08:00) is higher. C-32 motorway tolls may apply on top.
The cheapest option from the airport. One single ticket covers the entire journey: take the R2 Nord to Sants Estació, then transfer to the R1 line. Rodalies trains are known for delays, so allow extra time.
The metro serves both T1 and T2, but it does not go to the city centre directly. You must transfer at Zona Universitària to reach Plaça Catalunya — making it the slowest option at around 50 minutes just to the city, before you even get on the R1.
Our recommendation: Skip the metro. The Aerobus or Sagalés 603 are faster and more comfortable.
Girona-Costa Brava Airport is actually the closest airport to the northern Maresme — Calella, Pineda de Mar, Santa Susanna and Malgrat de Mar are all around 40 km away, under 45 minutes by road. Here is the verified summer-2026 guide to every way of making that hop.
The right answer depends on where you’re staying, when you land, and whether you’re happy with transfers. Here’s our honest pick for each scenario:
| Your situation | Our pick | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Staying in Calella, Pineda, Sta. Susanna or Malgrat | ⭐ 605 direct bus (~€11) or direct shared shuttle (Flybus / MoventisExperience) | The 605 is back from 22 Jun 2026 — no transfers; the shuttle adds hotel drop-off (from ~€13.75) |
| Staying in Mataró or southern Maresme | ⭐ Sagalés → Barcelona Nord → R1 | The only sensible public-transport chain for the south coast |
| Travelling in summer (Jun–Sep) | ⭐ Bus → Lloret → Blanes → R1 | Faster than the Barcelona detour when seasonal buses run |
| Group of 3–4 with luggage | ⭐ Pre-booked private transfer | ~€100 split four ways = €25/head, door-to-door, 2h saved |
| Late-night arrival (after ~22:00) | ⭐ Pre-booked private transfer or taxi | The last buses (605 and Barcelona coach) go early; no R1 after ~22:30 |
| Solo budget traveller, daytime | ⭐ 605 direct bus if your town is on the route, otherwise Sagalés → Girona → train | Cheapest paths in 2026 — 605 ~€11, Girona+train from ~€8 |
Heading to Pineda de Mar or Santa Susanna? The Sagalés 605 direct coastal bus (resumed 22 June 2026, around €11) and the direct shared shuttles (Flybus or MoventisExperience, from around €13.75, about 45–55 minutes with hotel drop-off) are the fastest public options from Girona Airport to Pineda de Mar or Santa Susanna. Otherwise take the Sagalés coach to Barcelona Estació del Nord and the R1 train north (around 3 hours), or a taxi or pre-booked private transfer for €80–140 (about 30 minutes door-to-door).
The historic direct coastal line is running again. Sagalés resumed the 605 on 22 June 2026 with an updated timetable, linking Girona Airport with the coast at Blanes, Calella and Canet de Mar plus intermediate coastal stops. If your town is on the route, this is the simplest option — no transfers at all.
The door-to-door public option for the northern Maresme. Shared shuttle coaches run direct from Girona Airport to the major Maresme resort towns (Blanes, Malgrat, Santa Susanna, Pineda, Calella) and the Costa Brava (Lloret, Tossa). They’re aimed at package-tour traffic, but anyone can book them online. For Calella, Pineda and Santa Susanna they’re the easiest choice if you want hotel drop-off — no transfers.
The year-round backbone — reliable in winter, longer journey. The detour-via-Barcelona route (Sagalés Airport Line → Barcelona Estació del Nord → R1 Rodalies) is the most reliable way to reach any Maresme town outside summer. The Sagalés coach runs about 15 times a day, coordinated with flight arrivals, and the R1 train northbound is frequent.
GRO → Lloret de Mar → Blanes → R1 south to the Maresme: the fastest public-transport chain in summer — two transfers but no Barcelona detour. If you’re travelling between June and October, this is faster than going via Barcelona. The Sagalés 613 (or year-round Moventis 86) drops you in Lloret; a local bus connects to Blanes RENFE station; the R1 then runs south through every Maresme town. Two transfers, but it cuts ~1 hour off the Barcelona route.
Cheap and quick to the bus, but the onward train is the bottleneck. A cheap short hop to Girona city (line 607, ~€2.80–2.90), but the onward train to the Maresme is slow and requires a transfer at Maçanet-Massanes or Barcelona. Worth it only if you actually want to stop in Girona city for the day — not as a pure transit route.
Option A — Via Maçanet-Massanes (faster on paper):
Option B — Via Barcelona (more frequent):
The scenic summer arrival — long, but unforgettable. If you’re arriving in summer with no luggage rush, this is the most memorable way in. Take the Moventis 86 or Sagalés 613 to Lloret de Mar, then board a Dofí Jet Boats coastal ferry south to Calella, Malgrat or Blanes. Slow, scenic, runs roughly May–October, weather-dependent.
Maximum flexibility — useful if you plan to explore beyond the coast. If you want side-trips to Girona city, the Costa Brava, Cap de Creus or even Andorra, a rental car is the easiest move. The AP-7 motorway and C-32 toll road both run directly south to the Maresme; Calella is ~30 minutes from GRO.
All major rental brands operate desks in the arrivals hall: Avis, Budget, Centauro, Enterprise, Europcar, Goldcar, Hertz, Sixt. Book online for the best rates — on-arrival walk-up pricing is usually 2–3× higher.
Door-to-door and the fastest option at ~30–55 minutes. Girona Airport is physically closer to the northern Maresme than to Barcelona. Malgrat, Santa Susanna and Calella are all under 45 minutes by car. Prices vary by operator, time of day and season — ranges below reflect aggregator pricing from Kiwitaxi, Welcome Pickups, Costa Brava Taxi and MyTransfers.
| Destination | Distance | Drive time | Private Transfer | Taxi (metered) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Malgrat de Mar | ~38 km | ~30 min | ~€80–100 | ~€100–130 |
| Santa Susanna | ~42 km | ~32 min | ~€80–110 | ~€100–135 |
| Pineda de Mar | ~42 km | ~33 min | ~€85–110 | ~€105–140 |
| Calella | ~42 km | ~30–35 min | ~€70–110 | ~€100–140 |
| Canet / Arenys | ~50–52 km | ~40–42 min | ~€100–130 | ~€120–155 |
| Mataró | ~59–66 km | ~40–55 min | ~€120–145 | ~€130–160 |
| Lloret de Mar | ~30 km | ~25 min | ~€55–75 | ~€65–85 |
| Blanes | ~34 km | ~28 min | ~€65–85 | ~€75–95 |
Aena publishes that fixed coastal-town taxi fares exist from Girona Airport but does not list them online. For a guaranteed price, call ahead: Taxis Vilobí Onyar +34 972 935 736, Gitaxi, Radiotaxi Girona, or Taxi Girona Raimon.
Which company? For the shared shuttles (Flybus, MoventisExperience, Terravision) see Option 2 above — booking links and prices are there. The private-transfer companies serving Girona are largely the same ones as from Barcelona (Welcome Pickups, Chofix, Kiwitaxi and co.) — see the Barcelona transfer table for how they compare on service and booking.
Ryanair dominates — with routes from across Europe. Girona-Costa Brava Airport is essentially a Ryanair hub. The vast majority of flights (90%+) are operated by Ryanair, with routes connecting to cities across Europe.
Some seasonal charter flights also operate from Nordic countries during summer.
The R1 Rodalies line connects all Maresme towns to Barcelona and each other
The R1 runs from Plaça Catalunya and Sants Estació to every Maresme town. From the airport, add ~25 min (Aerobus to Pl. Catalunya) or ~19 min (R2 Nord to Sants).

| Malgrat de Mar | 5H | ~78 min | ~108 min | ~€6–7 |
| Blanes | 5H | ~83 min | ~113 min | €8.25 |
Times are approximate. “From Airport” adds ~30 min for the R2 Nord connection via Sants Estació. Train prices are for a single ticket covering the entire airport → Sants → R1 journey — buy the through-ticket at the airport Rodalies machine (exact fares moved with the January 2026 tariff update). If using the Aerobus (€7.45) to Pl. Catalunya instead, you need a separate R1 ticket. Check Rodalies website for live schedules.
Blanes is the northern terminus of the R1 — so from Girona Airport the Lloret → Blanes shortcut puts you on the train far faster than detouring through Barcelona: Calella is ~1h 50m via Blanes against ~3h 15m via Barcelona. Total journey times from Girona Airport, with realistic transfer buffers:
| Town | Via Barcelona | Via Blanes |
|---|---|---|
| Mataró | ~2h 45m | ~2h 30m |
| Arenys de Mar | ~3h | ~2h 10m |
| Canet de Mar | ~3h | ~2h 5m |
| Sant Pol de Mar | ~3h 10m | ~2h |
| Calella | ~3h 15m | ~1h 50m |
| Pineda de Mar | ~3h 20m | ~1h 45m |
| Santa Susanna | ~3h 20m | ~1h 40m |
| Malgrat de Mar | ~3h 25m | ~1h 35m |
| Blanes | ~3h 30m | (start point) |
See Option 4 in the Girona section for the step-by-step Lloret → Blanes chain, and Option 3 for the year-round Barcelona route. The 605 direct bus skips the train entirely.
Which ticket saves you the most money
The T-Casual is a 10-trip integrated card that works on trains (including the airport R2 Nord), buses and metro. One trip allows transfers within 75 minutes (+15 min per extra zone). Personal and non-transferable.
| Zones | Price (10 trips) | Per trip | Covers |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 zones | €25.50 | €2.55 | Airport + Montgat to Vilassar de Mar |
| 3 zones | €34.70 | €3.47 | Airport + up to Mataró / Caldes d’Estrac |
| 4 zones | €44.65 | €4.47 | Airport + up to Calella / Pineda de Mar |
| 5 zones | €51.20 | €5.12 | Airport + up to Blanes / Malgrat de Mar |
Unlimited travel on Barcelona city transport: metro (including the airport L9), buses, tram and Rodalies zone 1 only. It is not valid on the R1 out to Calella (zone 4) or the rest of the coast — so it’s a card for full days exploring Barcelona city, not for reaching the Maresme.
| Duration | Price |
|---|---|
| 2 days | €18.70 |
| 3 days | €27.30 |
| 4 days | €35.60 |
| 5 days | €43.60 |
Includes the airport metro L9 (which T-Casual doesn’t cover) but only Rodalies zone 1 — for the coast you still need a separate R1 ticket or T-Casual. Buy at holabarcelona.com.
Local buses, taxis and getting between towns
For most trips between Maresme towns, the R1 train is easiest. Buses are useful for reaching inland towns or places without a train station.
Each Maresme town has local taxi services. You’ll usually find them at the train station or call for a pickup. Short hops between neighbouring towns are inexpensive (€8–15).
Many budget flights arrive late — here’s how to get to Maresme
| Transport | Last Service | To Maresme? |
|---|---|---|
| Aerobus | Runs 24/7 (every 20 min after 1am) | To Plaça Catalunya only — no onward Maresme connection |
| N17 / N18 Night Bus | ~22:00–05:00, every 20 min | To Plaça Catalunya only (€2.90, T-Casual valid) |
| Metro L9 (Fridays) | Until 02:00 | To Zona Universitària only — no Maresme |
| Metro L9 (Saturdays) | Runs all night | To Zona Universitària only — no Maresme |
| Taxi | 24/7 | Yes — ~€114 to Calella (metered, night rate) |
| Pre-booked transfer | 24/7 | Yes — from ~€83 to Calella (fixed price) |
If your flight arrives after 10pm and you’re heading to the Maresme coast, pre-book a private transfer. It’s cheaper than a metered taxi, the driver monitors your flight for delays, and you get dropped at your hotel door. See Option 3: Private Transfer or Taxi above for recommended companies and prices.
Alternatively, if you’re on a tight budget: take the Aerobus to Plaça Catalunya (€7.45), stay overnight nearby, and catch the first R1 train from Plaça Catalunya at ~05:30 the next morning.
Both the 605 direct coastal bus and the Sagalés coach to Barcelona Estació del Nord finish in the evening — and even if you catch the Barcelona coach, there is no R1 train north after ~22:30. For arrivals after ~22:00, plan on a metered taxi (~€100–140 to Calella, ~30–35 minutes) or a pre-booked private transfer (~€70–110). Fixed coastal-town taxi fares exist from Girona Airport — for a guaranteed price, call Taxis Vilobí Onyar on +34 972 935 736. Full price table: Girona taxis & transfers.
